I did the water pump at the same time to save on labor. Parts were 220, labor 400, tax 20. Dealer wanted over 900 plus they said my brakes needed new pads/rotors. I went to an independent shop they said my brakes were fine. It pays to shop around! |

Kia Dealership quote at $450. Mine is a '99 Kia Sephia. I ran 115k before thinking about replacing timing belt, reason being car starting to get sluggish. Otherwise runs great at 30MPG. |

EGR Valve, Iac Valve, New Plugs, New Pcv Valve And Gasket. Car Runs Like The Day I bought It And I Know What Was Done How It Was Done And That Its %100 In Time. |

Quoted cost for timing belt/waterpump package and new spark plugs, oil change, at Pacific Honda. Is this excessive? |

This is the amount I was quoted. Was told on this model there is a belt in front & back of engine. It's a 2000 Explorer Sport. Would luv to know if that sounds correct. |

Local independent quoted me at $800-$900, but I told him the Boston Village Volvo dealer had quoted me at $400. He checked parts and came down to the dealer's price. Dealer's always try to add things to the job though. Always have a second quote. Had over 60K on previous belt, which he said still had a little time left on it. Better too early than too late. |

Went to a (dealership), West Hills Honda in Bremerton, WA and I was quoted $750.00 not including tax to replace water pump, timing belt, A/C belt, Power Steering Belt, Alternator Belt and coolant.
However, they also fixed two tail lights and a cam plug that was leaking oil which added about $64.00 more $$.
I had a $75 off coupon that came in the mail, but you can also get the coupon online at their website.
All in all, $749.29 plus tax of $64.44 which came to $813.73.
The service was excellent, they provide free transportation to work or home. They dropped me off at home and then picked me up when my car was finished.
They offered me a hot latte, but I was able to get a free early gray tea instead. (I don't drink coffee)
Best car service I have ever had in my entire life and I'm over thirty something. They get an AA++ |

Had the timing belt replaced at a set price of $350.00. When the mechanic got in their he said the seals were leaking and needed to be replaced and they had a package price of $325 to change the water pump, coolant and seals. A lot of money maintenance wise for a civic worth $4,500 |

Water pump alone would be $770, dealer suggested doing timing belt at same time for additional $100. Seemed expensive, but they've always treated me fairly. Car has 83K miles. |

Hyundai Dealer quoted before work was performed. We'll see how it goes. With a newer car I felt more comfortable w/ a dealer even though their prices tend to be a little higher than your neighborhood mechanic. |

If the cost to replace a water pump is $400, should it cost $850 to also replace the timing belt at the same time? |

Harmonic Balancer was replaced, had timing belt & water pump done too. Also included tune-up, seals, filters, spark plugs & wires, battery replaced. Probable cause was oil leaks. |

The HIPPA privacy act now applies to your car maintenance records. If you do not take your car back to where it has been serviced, your new mechanic cannot call and get your records, and they don't offer to either. You have to call and it can be done from wherever you're at.
Lesson learned. I got charged for all this stuff I had done and paid for two years ago all because I didn't know this. |

I traveled to Salt Lake City, UT for a funeral and the day before I was supposed to come home (Portland, Oregon area) the Timing went out, along with valves and water pump. The previous owner had done nothing to the car to maintain it. My wife and I bought it in Sept. 07 (110K miles) and the Timing went out at 145K. I was surprised that it lasted this long. Good sedan with gas mileage. 40/gal all the way. |

I'm coming up on this service soon so I wanted to get an idea of what it was going to cost.It would be interesting to know how many of these responses were from people who had their service done at a dealership as opposed to a regular service station.I'm guessing the dealership experience is going to be more expensive but probably done to a better level of proficiency. There's a right way to do this project and there's a skimpyway too. |
