Not sure of the entirety of this fix. It's being fixed as I type. I know my heat shield fell off and the muffler itself was blown out like an alien chest buster. I honestly thought it would be more $ because the noise started 2 years ago. I had to choose more important parts to fix First.

The flex pipe is the braided steel-covered exhaust pipe section that is just in back of the engine. The braiding covers a flex pipe, similar to a dryer vent configuration, only steel. Found the shop thru a Yelp search, hadn't been to a muffler shop in about 15 years. The entire procedure was removal of burned out flex pipe, about a 8" long part from end-to-end, installation and providing of new flex pipe, installation of 2 muffler hangers to support the flex pipe, which were not there, per the installer. The entire job was about 30 minutes. I didn't want to delay the work, because running with a large exhaust leak creates a lean condition, and can potentially damage an engine. Hence, I used the judgement of the Yelp reviews to make my decision, rather than get estimates, time was of the essence with regards to not damaging the engine. My engine was recently rebuilt. Still unsure if it was a good price.

My exhaust system broke in the middle of the underside of car while I was on a trip to the mountains. I lugged the whole muffler and about 5 feet of pipe home in the middle of the car hoping to have it just welded back on for maybe a hundred bucks. First place (a local full mechanic) said there was too much rust to weld anything back together and would need to replace everything from the catalytic converter back. They quoted $680, but admitted they were way overpriced since exhausts weren't their primary thing. They stated Exhaust Pros were the only place they could confidently recommended. Called Mike there & he quoted me $225 to replace everything. I showed up the next morning happy with the quote. I mentioned the old muffler was in my car if he could reuse any of it. He said it would be done by the afternoon. Two hours later he called and said it was finished for 80 bucks. He was able to fully reuse everything that had fallen off just replacing a 18" section of pipe. I'm very happy!

Original muffler was still on there after 152K miles, which is pretty remarkable. Had to get the rear muffler assembly replaced. Spent $634 with parts and labor. Seems reasonable. I'm sure It could've been worse at a Dealership. Pricey but I think better than paying for a new car payment every month

Gaping hole in middle pipe (the one with resonator). My guy said connections for front and rear pipes were corroded. He said he worked to salvage the front pipe (w/ cat converter), but that rear pipe (w/ muffler) was close to going. So he replaced middle and rear pipes. Hard to second guess him, but I would have loved to get underneath myself and try to save the rear pipe! I could have gotten the middle pipe for $100, and if needed the rear pipe for about the same. Then again, exhaust systems can be nothing but frustration for a DIYer! How much is that worth? :)

Service person was ultimately very helpful but really priced this repair way high, to include the catalytic converter ($900). I could not afford $1400, let alone $650 to replace the midpipe and muffler, so her offered a weld of the join for $125. Still more than I should have paid, but, at least I have the repair I need for now and can decide on what to do with potential issues down the road.

I was in and out within 45 minutes and the car is so smooth and quiet now. Total is $140 for muffler and gasket(???!!!) + $44 labor + $6 disposal + 13 tax. If I look at the market value of parts, it would be like $85. So adjust the labor to $100. That is an OK cost for the location, although I could have done it cheaper had I spent time shopping around. Meineke at Sawmill said I had to replace many more parts and gave me an estimate of $300. Don't go to those dishonest people.
