Chevy dealer says they don't charge for labor, just a fixed price per specific job. I'm a 27 year-old female getting this done by myself, so I don't want to go anywhere but the dealer. He says:
149 fuel injection service
149 coolant flush
25 tire rotation
25 "LOX"...I think that's what it says...
68 air filter
Now I used to change the air filter myself on my 91 Camaro. I don't know that a Cobalt would be much more difficult, so I think I will tell him no on that one and drop the total to $370, depending on "lox" being essential and clarified. I think 149 is a lot just to flush and refill coolant. I have no idea what he thinks the "service" is in "fuel injection service." I can't do the tire rotation myself. The car is just about at 25k miles. Email me advice at [email protected]. Thanks! |

My suggestion to anyone when it come to the prcie of tune ups is to learn to do them yourself. Even if u are buying the parts and getting a friend to do it for a "friend price" u still could pay up to $100 and more if the friend is doing the whole lot: plugs, wires, filters, fluid changes, etc. So really the best bet to cut a major hole in the price is to learn how to do it urself. It's not that hard just might take the average person some time to do the whole thing. But think about it; paying for just parts and doin it urself (full parts:200+or-) or paying for parts and the labor of a friend, cheap mechanic, or better known shop to do it (who knows how much that'll cost). So just suck it up and learn it, plus trust me it'll be fun to know the u urself put work into making ur car run better and when u notice the difference that the well down tune up well do to it u'll be prod of urself and ur pockets. This time I'm payin my friend to do it because this is my first time but after to seeing it down I'll definitely do it myself next time. Super easy. Super cheap. |

Radiator flush, spark plugs/coils changed, computers re-set. Labor $100. The tech is a friend of a mechanic friend - maybe that helped. But just before this, I'd done a transmission flush at the dealership($160 thru another friend) and got the fuel/air filters changed - $100. Everything's cheaper cos' I had friends. If you go to dealer, please multiply everything by 4, maybe 5. |

I went for an inspection but hadn't had a tune up in awhile so they had to replace a couple belts, spark plugs, gasket, etc. So $160 was the charge for the tune-up but $220 for parts. |

loss of pwr on trip to the beach; bad sputter at low speeds and noteable pwr loss at crusing speed. advanced auto pulled the code for the ck engine light-misfire in cylinders 3&2.
BP svc center did a diagnostic test to pull the codes and did the work fast same morning. Thought was a bit high at $250. But had to have it done fast while at the beach. I would recommend other than higher than expected charge. |

Suv was shaking, check light on. Book said emission problem, mechanic said needed master tune up, would replace all hoses, filter 3 hrs. I called within 3, SUV read. Running smoothly. I don't know. Most places closed could not compare prices. |

Replaced spark plugs, wires, air filter, cap, service transmission (fluid & filter), and check sensors/shift solenoid pack on transmission.
The rear spark plugs are indeed hard to reach w/o putting on a lift &/or lowering the engine. |

Using the word tune up has become a misconception of what a tune up is, that is one of the reason there so much disparity in prices. If the mechanic does not take the time to explain what the tune up going to include then is almost impossible to compare prices and if what you paid is a fair price. Prices for tune ups, also very due to the quality in parts used. Too cheap is not good either, you might not be getting all the services you think you are. Get a good honest mechanic is hard but there some out there. |

do all the work myself, because I know who did the work. I reccomend eveyone learning about thier car Just take your owners manual and place it in the magazine tray for reading. I Gapped the Spark Plugs to .60 and the wires came with Dielectric paste for connections. I used my Cheapo Socket set from Tractor supply cost 12 bucks and includes the correct Deep Socket for the spark plug removal and install. List of Items from Oriely Auto Parts Terrel Texas and Shell Station.
