Brakes Cost - Buyer Experiences and Price Information

I got four ceramic genuine Motorcraft brake pads for my Zephyr sport and my rotors were turned/remachined. It took around 2 hours.
Lincoln Ultra High Performance Brakes would have been $650 for 4 pads, Lincoln High Performance Brakes would have been $450 for 4 pads and the mechanic told me that is actually Motorcraft but different packaging so I would pay for the brand name thus that is the same as the ceramic Motorcraft that comes in Motorcraft box not in Lincoln Hight Performance labeled box.

Went in for a oil change. I needed to change my brakes but was waiting for summer. First said 800 (like i was gonna do that). Then the manager came and said 350 for all 4 wheels (roators and brake pads)

I am so glad that I decided to do my brakes myself after looking on here I probably saved over $400. It is really not a difficult job, we ran into a snag such as needing a new caliper and a lug nut being over tightened. We bought all the parts from autozone so we get the money back on brake pads, rotors have a 1yr warranty, and we got $25 back for bringing back the broken caliper. I only watched my brother do the brakes once last year and I just went to ehow for the step by step directions.

I don't know if this is good or bad, I just know it isn't fun... just took in for 150K servicing, they told me car not safe to drive home even tho I haven't had any braking issues. 8 mos ago took in for inspection they told me rear brakes needed pads rotors and calipers too.

Front and back rotors were warped, but pads were still in decent shape. alignment is an additional $80.00 I feel like the price was fair.

Back brakes and rotors and an oil change. Total came to 394 with labor and tax included.

This is serious.! now after reading this i didnt even think it was possible to get ripped off this bad! I (SERIOUSLY) paid 52$ +FREE SHIPPING for 2 BRAND NEW rotors and 4 pads of redline brakes GOOD BRAND off EBAY and put them on myself and its great i honestly didnt think people paid this much for brake work. I have a Mits Eclipse and using redline brakes is great when i go to the strip..I stop on a dime! well goodluck. either way order these brakes and have a shop do them for you if you dont want to it will save you money!
PS my father drove semi truck for 10 years only with REDLINE brakes and never had any problems.

Had the front pads replaced, rotos ground down, drums and rear brakes completely replaced, along with Fuel filter and spark plugs replaced, amazed me by the final price! Shopped around a bunch nothing Beats PepBoys, I use to have doubts about the corporate world repairing my vehicle, now I have PB do everything, much cheaper and they stand by their work. Happy to be a PepBoys customer.

brake lights switch replaced; it required the that part of the steering wheel be removed and the switch replaced. i dont know the published hours required for this job, so not sure, but i feel the amount spent a great price it is not.

Just Brakes in Denver did this work : 4 new pads, 2 new rotors, rear drums, reconditioned calipers,and bleed the brake system for 540 including tax on my 2000 toyota echo. This seemed high at the time, but after looking at other posts it seemed reasonable.

Front and rear brake pads + front left hub bearing + plus 4 new rotors. Pretty good place to go they're nice and friendly.

paid 412.29 for new front pads rotors and callipers plus had to replace left wheel bearing plus 45 for the tow labor included in price

Good price, fast service. I thought this was a very low and good price. The technician listened to my complaint about vibration at speed, and stuck his hands through the wheels, felt the rotors and said the replacement would solve my problem. They did a great job, and were very professional

Got opinion from two separate shops on need to replace. Cost was $320 per axle for rotors and brakes + tax.

To replace 2 front brakes, rotors, & flush. Inspection & tire rotations free since I've previously bought tires from them. Would buying the brakes & taking it to the shop be cheaper??

I can't believe how expensive it is!! Unfortunately I didn't have much choice in mechanics and I needed it done quickly. Some day I need to learn how to do this myself. $550 is way too much money!

Considering I'm not a huge fan of car repair prices, I went to Goodyear and was quoted $900. A tune up alone was $550 for my car which was just replacing plugs. Are you serious? I went by other places and got better prices. I went with Pep Boys because I've never had a problem with any of their repairs.

Replace front brake pads on both rotors was $350. Not happy with shop so won't list them here to avoid giving them free publicity.

Front brakes warning indicator squealed, took to local shop, wanted $750 to replace front and rear brakes/rotors. Decided to take DIY route, replaced front brakes for $42.40. Worked great. Replaced rear brakes about a year later when they began to squeal for another $40.

They Redid the rear Breaks and Rotors for $275 + Tax

Have 65000 on 2006 Mercury Mountaineer, had a safety check, expected to do brakes, dealer said brakes were fine, look at them again in 12000 miles ! Have not spent a dime on this besides Oil Changes !

Semi metallic front pads and rear shoes, plus new drum spring kit for $56 through Amazon.com for $56. I already had the synthetic grease, brake tools, brake bleeder, cotter pins and a gallon of brake fluid. The rotors and drums were in excellent shape (no ridges or deep scratches) so I just scuffed with emory paper. Drained and replaced brake fluid and repacked wheel bearings while I was at it.

Bought 4 new drilled and slotted rotors locally for $200. Bought front and rear "Satisfied" ceramic brake pads online from Amazon.com for $100. I had the synthetic grease, brake tools and bleeding equipment and a gallon of brake fluid. Installation very straightforward and easy with the exception of having to take a 2" x 2" and tapping the back of each frozen rear rotor to pop them off. Drained and replaced all the old brake fluid with new fluid.

Purchased mid-grade ceramic pads for $56 plus tax after 20% off and $4 for caliper lube, brake cleaner. $30 for front rotors to be machined at local shop. Very easy install. You can look up videos on youtube to help. Good luck and highly recommend doing it yourself.

I originally took the car in to a Mazda dealership to get the brakes checked - they quoted $497.85 to replace the front brake pads and rotors, 140 to flush out and change the brake fluid, and 28 for tire rotation for a total of 665.85.
When I called Pep Boys they quoted 69.99 for the hydraulic brake flush and 213.97 for all the parts and labor with free tire rotation - the total with tax was 313.89, then I found a coupon on their website for 10% off. VERY happy to have saved $375, it pays to compare :) I just wish I'd seen the coupon sooner since Pep Boys offered free brake inspection too, and the dealer charged $55 just to tell me what was wrong w/the car!

I purchased front & rear ceramic brake pads for my 2007 Camry for $100. I took it to local auto repair shop for installation and machining the rotors. I haven't gotten new brakes/pads before so I didn't know what would be the labor cost, but after reading above posts I think $150 is very reasonable.
