Bought the used 2000 Dakota this year, low mileage (120K), but with many issues. Finally got the trans fixed, but it cost more than I expected. Was hoping for $1500. Trying to find out how much for a factory rebuilt one. AAMCO took mine apart and replaced worn parts/seals. |

Bought a used transmission from J&B Auto Parts in Bithlo, came with a 30 day money back warranty and automatic swap out if the part fails. Put in brand new clutch and slave cylinder with the 5 speed tranny. Total cost included gear oil. Total time spent was 3 days. about 5 hours a day spent. If you have a solid car knowledge you can make this happen. This was our first transmission and with the help of google and youtube everything was a breeze. |

Two year 24k mile warranty rebuild for $3,000. The burb has 170k+ Miles so I guess I did ok. Problem is for this kind of money they should have went with a new unit from GM which offers a three year 100k mile warranty. When asked when this option wasn't explored the guy "Ron" simply said, "I guess we didn't explore that option." The thought is that one can trust your wrench shop to make educated decisions...I guess that isn't the case at Dakota Ridge. Probably won't ever be going back there. |

Was experincing a bumping noise and jerk when I put car in reverse. I took car to Mr. Transmission and was told it was $1,600.00 to pull transmission and check it out. Since I travel extensivly by myself, I wanted someone who was nation wide in case the same thing happened again. After they pulled transmission, they told me it would cost $5,500.00 to fix it. As I needed my car, what else could I do? So I forked over the money (which I did not really have) I picked up my car and suprise what!! The next day it did the dme thing again. I took it back mto them and they said I had a leak in the transmission but they would fx for "free". I guess so, I had a 2 year warrinty. I had to go out of town on business and chose to fly. I guess it was a good thing as my husband says my car is worse than before. He is going to go back tomorrow and read them the right act. I told my husband to tell them to fix it or we would see them in small claims court. Do you blame me? |

Check engine light came on, engine dies when stopping. Had trusted mechanic check codes and run tests, needs rebuild of transmission at 90,000 miles. Not as much as it cost for a 1990 Bronco 10 years ago($3,400). |

1st transmission world quoted 2400 to rebuild transmission for 2004 ford explore. then they said they will charge me 1800 after i told them i would take it to someone else. they did the job for 1800. after that repair they said i need a new radiator because that was the problem that make the transmission go bad. i said no... give me the car i will take it to another mechanic for advise and they said radiator did not need repair. Now transmission world won't give me the warranty on the transmission because i did not let them replace the radiator for $495.00. How can I get them to give me the warranty on the job they did regardless to the fact that they did not replace the radiator? |

When I bought my car the advertisement said it had warranty on the transmission. After two months it got a severe transmission fluid leak and became undriveable .The previouse owner had me transport the car to the garage where the work had been done .It's now been four weeks and have lost contact with the previouse owner .I am stuck with no vehicle .Don't know where to go from here. |

I had the transmission replaced which carried a 1 year limited warranty on it. A year and a half later the transmission failed. I love the Ford Windstar style, roominess, and ride. The engine is great, 3.8L. the paint job stinks and the Ford company doesnt stand by it, Major fixes on this car, transmission, rack and pinion, steering pump. I paid $6,000 for this car 2 years ago and have put in over $4,000 in repairs. Now I am left with no car, on foot with two kids and recent budget cuts at work, so less work hours. An hour walk to work and then back to home is not going to seem so great here in a month when our weather turns here on the coast. Dont by a Ford Windstar. Nothing but problems. |

Starting to get slow shifting around 35 mph accompanied by a deep rattle. Car is 03 has 175K miles (first real problem on it). Dealer cost seems astronomical compared to local tranny shop estimates in the 1-1.5K range. Although warranty with dealer is 3 years (outside shops only 1 year). |

I just want to say thanks to everyone for sharing this information. I have been considering buying a used VW Jetta. A number of them that are for sale describe transmission problems in the ad. Now that I've read the posts about VWs and how much it costs to fix them, I'll look for something else. |

This car had 220 thousand miles of going up and down the mountain when the tranny finally started to slip. As soon as I pulled in to the drive, it went. We had our mechanic look for the part which was fairly easy because it is such a popular car, and gave us a great deal. The camry is at 290 now with the transmission being the only problem. |

I had bought the car from an auction to find out that the transmission was shot. Two days after I bought the car the reverse went on the transmission. I then went to a salvage yard and purchased a used transmission for $200.00. I took it to the transmission shop and they charged me 400-500 dollars to install it. So you get what you pay for right? |

Vehicle was towed in and work was finished. Truck drove 18 miles before I had to have it towed back in with engine problems. Now motor needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Just spent 2869 and shop overcharged 869 resulting in a negative bank account and is giving runaround with refund. Truck was returned with a cut hose, and the manager of this shop is a fruit loop. Has a bad rep online and now I know why. |

after 4years the van wouldn't go into park! Del toyota in Coatesville took it to the the transmission specialist. Amazing damage to the transmission. metal sheared off full of shards of metal extensive damage. no way this is normal. Toyota but you have exceeded your warrenty of 60,000. Really Toyota you only want a transmission to last 107,000. Dealer is very surprised. |

I paid hollywood transmission 1200 cash to rebuild my transmission in May 2010, seemed like a good deal and it included a year warranty or 12000 miles. My car broke down in December 2010 when i towed it back to the shop the mechanic was to busy to check it and made a big deal about my warranty, 2 days later he called me saying that my radiator had blown and ruined my transmission and that wasn't covered by my warranty when i went to the shop he showed me a leaking car and a puddle of fluid under it he also told me he had to flush the radiator and that to fix it was gonna cost 1250 can someone please tell me if this is accurate or is this guy just blowing smoke because he doesn't want to honor his warranty! |

I received several quotes to rebuild my transmission from 1300 to 2500. Mr Transmission gave me a fair quote and stuck to it. Most shops will throw in extras and hit you at the end for more money. I paid the price I was quoted and got everything fixed that was needed, even a few extra things that they could have left alone. I also received a 3 yr 50,000 mile warranty. |

My mechanica said he would replace my xmission for $675 partys $350 labor $1025 but only came with 3 month warranty. Brought it to a trasmission specialist. Was quoted $1600 for a 2yr 24k warranty, but could be more depending on how much hardware was dammaged. I got the call and it was $2080. Not sure if my car is still worth that but don't want car payments now |
