Painter: MAACO |
I am rebuilding a Jeep Wrangler YJ and I am at the point now where I am looking into paint jobs. I was looking into MAACO because the price seemed right, but after reading the reviews I think I will save for a few more months and get a quality paint job done by a quality company. I didnt put all that time, hard work and money into my jeep so my wife and I can go rolling around town I in a high quality 4X4 that looks like a POS. |

I purchased a vehicle that was just painted by Macco and they painted over chips and nicks. What a miserable paint job. I dont see how Macco stays in business. |

had the car painted black with metallic blue flake in it- the car was grey and had a great deal of chipping. Maaco in Hamden did a great job- there were a couple of runs they could have put a little more clear on the driver's side fender, but that was 3 years ago and I still get compliments on the paint job. Maaco in Hamden, CT did a great job and I would use them again. |

I have a Mustang shop and use the maaco in Brandon Fl. I have had over 15 car painted there and all have looked great. One done five years ago still looks good. If you have concerns about the shop you go to look in the parking lot and see what the cars painted look like |

So glad I stumbled onto this site cuz like the rest,I was about to give Macco a call.
I would rather pay more and get a GOOD paint job rather then go cheaper and be disappointed later on.Fixing a Macco job sounds way too expensive.
What happened to just plain old honesty and not trying to screw the customer?
Don't know if it's even worth painting my car now. I wouldn't know the first place to go. |

Painter: Maaco |
Unlike most here, I had a good experience at a Maaco. I had my daughters Grand Cherokee painted at the Branch in Hiram Ga, just to change the color.
I never intended to get the "cheap deal", and was always going with the "supreme" two stage process. While there were extras on the "package" price, (SUV's cost more, plus re-badging), the manager went through this with me beforehand.
The door jambs were not repainted, only external work, but I had no overspray issues, and four and a half years (over 20,000 miles) later, the paint still looks good. It's outlasted what I expected from a lower end respray, and I'm happy.
From my experience, and what I've read here, it looks as though there are good Maaco branches, & bad, and it appears as though the bad far outnumber the good.
I was lucky to get one of the good ones. |

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would like to thank everybody on this page for these helpful reviews. i was gonna take my car to maaco but after reading these highly persuasive reviews i changed my mind. Obviously their workmanship sucks. my car is a dark green but i wanted to get it sprayed to a black. but i guess ill have to spend the $1000 if i want it done right from another autobody shop. |

I am so glad that I ran into this web-site. I can sure say that everything happens for a reason. I just got off the phone with maaco to paint by irocz28 showroom rare yellow. They gave me a price for $1200 in which I stated that money is not an issue for a excellent showroom paint job. But after reading this about them they can forget about it. |

Quality paint/body work is very expensive, but it is great to have friends that do quality work (mainly custom bodywork and paint). This job would have probably cost around $2000-$3000 for the same job anywhere else. The price was superb and the quality is unmatched! I highly recommend this shop if you need any paint or custom work on a bike or car! |

I AGREE WITH RICK DUERR WHO USE TO WORK FOR MAACO. THERE ARE SOME BAD FRANCHISES AND GOOD ONES. I HAD 4 CARS PAINTED AT MAACO WITH GREAT RESULTS. I DID REMOVE CHROME AND OTHER ITEMS, AND ALSO STRIP AS MUCH WAXED AS I COULD FROM THE FINISH. THEY ARE NOT TAKING YOUR CAR DOWN TO BARE METAL. THEY ARE SANDING IT FOR ADHESION. COME ON GUYS, YOUR NOT GOING TO GET A GREAT JOB FOR $400-$500. DO A LITTLE WORK. THE PAINT THEY USE IS GOOD. DON'T PICK THE LOWER TWO THOUGH. BE PROACTIVE LIKE HE SAID AN LOOK AT THEIR WORK AND DO SOME PREPPING YOURSELF. FOR UNDER $1,500 YOU CAN HAVE A NICE LOOKING CAR IF YOU HELP OUT. IF IT HAS RUST, CHANCES ARE, IT WILL RUST AGAIN AS WELL, UNLESS SANDED TO BARE METAL & TREATED, BUT EVEN THAT'S NO GUARANTEE. JACK |

To the former Maaco rep...if u see numerous negative comments from people all over this country about Maaco, then what the hell makes u think that Maaco is doing a good job? Maaco is still in business because everyone wastes thousands of dollars on shitty paint jobs. Next time speak for yourself and not then entire company. And according to some of the comments about where to get a good paint job...looks like I'm gonna have to save a few stacks to get a quality job. |

I took my car that was glossy black and wanted to change the color to silver and the results were horrible. When my car was glossy black my car look almost new after i got it painted at maaco it looked much older. I examined the car and the job was done so poorly you could so tell that the car had been painted and not by professionals. when i opened the doors and trunk i could see silver paint sprayed inside. PLUS after a couple of weeks the paints started peeling off. SO NOT SATISFIED. VERY BAD EXPIRIENCE. I wished i would of never painted it and gone to Maaco. Also they just painted the car over the paint it already had and when it started to peel you could see the black and the silver. it looks horrible thanks to Maaco |

I have been wanting to repaint my car for some time now, just want a shiny black. All estimates from BBB auto bodies were starting at $1000.(too much) I strongly considered Maaco but they have an F- rating at BBB and many complaints. So, my husband and his friend will take on the project together. I'm worried but willing. |

Problems can be avoided if you as the customer take the time to research who you are allowing to do body work to your car. The Better Business bureau has a great website that allows you to quickly see if the Maaco is bogus and just because it carries the franchise name does not mean it is accredited by the BBB. In my case I found a Maaco near me that has a A+ rating by the BBB with few if not any customer complaints which means they stand by there work and strive for quality. All Maaco's are not bad its just the ownership and employees of some of these franchises. Reasearch the business before committing to allow them to work on your vehicle! |

ok, just to give you a guys some quick knowledge, Im a certified refinish tech for many high end luxury and exotic vehicles as well as a restoration tech. i only use the highest quality paints but just for giggles let me help you understand what materials cost me, not you, but me only a top quality job using only the finest of materials. lets take a standard mid sized car like an altima, 1 gal of clear with hardener and reducer $540, basecoat with reducer, pearl red the most expensive, 4 qts with reducer, $800, sealer with hardener and reducer 2 quarts, $290, thats roughly a little more than 1600 for just paint, no sand paper, bondo for body work, tape, masking paper, normal shop supplies. labor for de trimming the car and paint and buffing should run about 3500 to 4500 assuming no body work, oxidization, deep scratches or chips, rust. so a top quality paint job for a car that has decent paint and doesnt need to be stripped should cost you 5000 to 6000. anyone that says they use the best materials and is charging less than 3500 is clearly lying. and if the car is being completely stripped expect to pay 12k plus. im done |
