| Explosive gas under my.... |
| Amount: $50.00 |
| Posted by: Lucky Lee DieHardt in Seattle, WA. | Posted: July 3rd, 2010 12:07PM |
| Car Make: Dodge caamper van | Car Model: 68 popup, engine inside |
| Battery Type: Couldn't tell |
| I bought an old camper van with sinks refers and the engine in the middle like a coffee table. Who ever customized it used a ammo can to house it in under the drivers seat. Being stupid, I spotted the lid for it and as there were holes for the cbles, set it on top tokeep from shorting it out with a wrench etc. Cruisin home from the late shift at the shipyards, where gas cutting torches are everywhere, a tremendous explosion under the seat filled the cab with battery acid fumes, loud as a shotgun. I stopped, obviously, or would have died from the fumes and opened the windows etc. After the smoke cleared I tilted the seat fwd and plastic shards were embedded in the sink cabinet and what looked like the World Trade Center bldg was left. Stuck again I thought to myself. what was i thinkin? So, to my utter amazement, turned the key and cranked up the engine and made a 30 mile trip home. Now, that's a battery, and wonder to this day, why it would work at all, minimal fluid, 75% gone. Just the posts, cables and a few lead cells. I want to think it was a Die Hard, as I was lucky not to become a voodoo man impaled with plastic. Not a safe car, Gas and backfires next to you, a propane cylinder sitting about a foot from the box, and no front hood for protection in an accident. As it was hydrogen gas, think of the Hindenberg on a small scale, the humanity! Good story, but dumb move. |

| Was having my vehicle serviced at the dealership and they told me my battery failed the load test and recommended I replace it so I said sure. Moron! $170 for the battery plus $56 for labor. Oh well. I have made dumber purchases I suppose. |

| new battery |
| Amount: $85.00 |

| Car Make: 1990 | Car Model: grand marquis |
| Battery Type: duralast |
on a volvo I had, the battery was under the seat, and install was maybe worth it... but on the grand marquis, the battery is right there in front and easy to install myself. BY THE WAY: do not believe the 'disposal fee.' There's good lead in those batteries, worth money: most auto parts stores will pay you money, around $15 (via the 'core' refund) to get your old battery. Salvo advertises $5 upfront for any battery in any condition. |

| Sam's Club Experience |
| Amount: $69.76 |
| Posted by: DaveP in Houston, TX. | Posted: September 4th, 2010 03:09PM |
| Car Make: Nissan | Car Model: Pathfinder |
| Battery Type: Interstate |
Interstate Mega-Tron Plus (?) Group 24F, 630 CCA claimed. Installation, anti-corrosive grease and felt washers included. Sales tax not included. This is an 84-month battery, with 18 month free replacement.
Note: Interstate does not even show this battery on their website. Conclusion - they build it exclusively for Sam's Club. I'm keepin' my fingers crossed that this thing lasts, 'cause I rarely buy a product that I can't research.
Also, they put a numb-nuts "new man" on this job, and he didn't have a friggin' clue. Couldn't figure out, without help, how to attach the cable terminal clamps, and he way over-tightened the hold-down clamps. I'm surprised that he didn't crack the case. I adjusted and re-torqued the hold-downs the following day. He also positioned the hold-down clamp so that only one of the 3-cell covers could be pulled to inspect water level.
Mister Walton & Co simply wants a sale. Service is sorry at best, totally absent at worst. Never again will I trust them to touch my vehicle. |

| Firestone has a special for Sep 2010 |
| Amount: $60.00 |
| Posted by: srl99 in Concord, CA. | Posted: September 19th, 2010 04:09PM |
| Car Make: Ford | Car Model: F-150 |
| Battery Type: Group 65 |
| Firestone has a coupon $59.99 installed (+ tax) - some cars. This Interstate battery has 18 months free replacement then pro-rated for ?65 months? They tried to upsell to higher warranty battery for additional $$'s. This was cheaper than Sam's Club for a group 65 battery. |

| Yep, I got the battery changed at a dealership. They charged me an arm and a leg. Before they did the diagnostics, I asked them how much the battery would be if they figured it was a battery..and he said it varies and did not give me a solid price. On top of it, he wanted to charge me insane prices for other work. Don't get your car serviced here - Desert Sun Chrysler Jeep Dodge. |

| Car Make: jeep | Car Model: LIBERTY |
| My jeep was slow to start up and sluggish. A light on the dash came on and wouldn't go off. I took it to the Dodge Chrysler Jeep Dealership this morning. After several hours, I was told the car needed a battery. They charged 117.00 for the battery and 70.00 for (15 minutes of) labor. I couldn't take the jeep elsewhere because I was afraid it would stop before I arrived. This is just the part of my experience that relates to the battery. They tried to rip me off in a couple of other ways. In sum, the dealership used the fact that the car was hesitating to take advantage of me. NEVER AGAIN! Walmart will get my business next time. |

The battery died on me. Took it to Advance Auto Parts, and bought the cheap battery - it's called economy. They replaced it for free.
My first thought was to take it to the dealership, but a friend of mine suggested Advance Auto Parts. I am glad I worked out that way. |
